Does SmartGraft hair transplant surgery hurt?
The needle used to inject the local anesthetic may cause discomfort. Once the scalp is sufficiently numb, you won’t feel pain during the procedure. After the anesthetic wears off following the procedure, you may notice minimal discomfort akin to sunburn. This can be controlled with prescription or over-the-counter pain medication.
What type of anesthesia is used?
A SmartGraft treatment is considered a minor surgical procedure and is performed using local anesthesia with oral sedation for your safety and comfort.
When will I see results?
After your treatment, your transplanted hair follicles will take about 3 months to begin growing. You’ll see significant results at 6 months and full results around 1 year. Like your other hair follicles, these produce growth averaging about 6 inches annually.
How do I know if I’m a good candidate for SmartGraft?
Most healthy patients — both men and women — who are losing their hair and have realistic expectations are good candidates for SmartGraft. The results are best for those with adequate donor hair and mild to moderate hair loss, but improvements are still possible for those with extensive hair loss. It is also a good option for patients with hair loss or displaced hairlines from prior facial cosmetic or reconstructive surgery. The procedure is ideal for those who want a quick recovery, few activity restrictions, and no scarring.
How much does hair transplant surgery cost?
At Hair Restoration of Naples, we understand that cost is an important factor when considering hair transplant surgery. The cost of a hair transplant procedure is based on the number of grafts made, so it’s difficult to quote a specific price. Dr. Hasen offers a discount based on the actual number of grafts required. During your consultation, he will evaluate your unique needs and provide you with a personalized quote.
How long do I have to miss work, working out, or playing sports?
Generally, patients can return to work the day following the SmartGraft procedure. There are very few limitations during recovery. Most activities can be resumed at 1 week, and more strenuous activities at 2 weeks.
How long does the hair transplant procedure take?
The procedure time depends on the amount of hair to be transplanted. One advantage of using the SmartGraft device rather than NeoGraft® is that it is more automated and requires less time. It can take as little as 3 hours or as many as 8. For best results, the treatment may be broken up over multiple procedures.
How long do the grafts live?
The transplanted hair follicles become a permanent part of your scalp and hair growth cycle.
What about further balding? Will I need more hair transplants in the future?
SmartGraft does not stop the loss of hair. It transplants vital hair follicles that are genetically resistant to DHT to the area where hair is thinning. While the transplanted hairs are permanent, the loss of other hair can continue. You can get additional SmartGraft treatments or use other hair restoration methods, such as minoxidil, to maintain results.
When can I shampoo my hair after the procedure?
You can shower and shampoo your hair the day after your procedure. Dr. Hasen will give you detailed guidelines on how to care for your hair following the procedure.
